At EDGE we love a good bit of design. We are always on the lookout for something new, something that will push the boundaries and delight our inquisitive nature. Good design makes you think, raises questions and draws attention to the finer details of a product or company. Keep an eye out for our ‘EDGE-y Design’ blog posts where we will be paying homage to creations from around the globe that we think should be shared with our followers!

This week we can’t help but be in awe of the genius and slightly crazy footwear designs of Kobi Levi. The Israeli designer has presented his creations at various exhibitions in Tel-Aviv, Jerusalem, Tokyo, Verona, St.Etienne and Berlin to name a few. His ‘wearable sculptures’ stem from concentrating on bringing a design to life even before it is worn.

His designs seem largely based on everyday objects or familiar visuals such as animals or household items (and even the odd pop star!), transforming an object of inanimate qualities into something brimming with character and style. Here are some of our favourites below – check out his blog to find your favourite design!

“In my artistic footwear design the shoe is my canvas. The trigger to create a new piece comes when an idea, a concept and/or an image comes to mind. The combination of the image and footwear creates a new hybrid and the design/concept comes to life.  The piece is a wearable sculpture. It is “alive” with/out the foot/body.  Most of the inspirations are out of the “shoe-world”, and give the footwear an extreme transformation. The result is usually humoristic with a unique point of view about footwear. Another aspect of the creation is the realization. All the pieces are hand-made in my studio. The challenging technical development is the key to bring the design to life in the best way.”
